A man died after being hit by a car in which Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia was travelling. The incident took place near Alappuzha in Kerala. The minister escaped unhurt, ANI tweeted.
Scindia was in the car at the time of the accident. The victim, a 62-year-old man, was riding a bike when it collided with the MP's car near Alappuzha. The victim was taken to a hospital in another car but was declared brought dead.
On his part, Scindia reportedly sent his car (which was involved in the accident) and the car driver to the police station, the Press Trust of India reported.
Jyotiraditya Scindia is a Member of Parliament from the Guna constituency in Madhya Pradesh. He held the position of an independent minister of state in Manmohan Singh's Cabinet from October 2012 to May 2014.
The incident is the recent one in a string of accidents involving VIPS that have happened in the past few months. In March, Textile Minister Smriti Irani's convoy was involved in an accident that left one dead and two injured near Mathura in Uttar Pradesh.
After the incident, the victim's kin alleged that Irani ignored their pleas to rush the victim to the hospital. On her part, Irani tweeted saying she "tried to help the injured who were lying on the road."
Last year, a car in which BJP MP and actress Hema Malini was travelling in collided into another car near Dausa in Rajasthan, leaving a four-year-old girl dead and six persons injured.
