Mammootty's upcoming flick "Munnariyippu" will hit the theatres on 22 August. The film is directed by national award winning cinematographer Venu. The film was previously scheduled for mid-June release, but due to reasons unknown, it got postponed.
Munnariyippu" revolves around the life of an ex-convict Raghavan (Mammootty) who leads a simple life and likes loneliness. The heroine of the film is Aparna Gopinath who plays the role of Anjali. Anjali is a journalist and meets Raghavan as she wants to write about him and his experiences. Her meeting with Raghavan gradually changes her perception about life.
Aparna Gopinath and Mammootty have earlier worked together in the film "Gangster" (2014), but the film was a disaster in the box office.
The cast list also includes Nedumudi Venu, Prathap Pothan, Renji Panicker, Joshy Mathew, Sreeraman, Sudheesh and Saiju Kurup.
The screenplay of "Munnariyippu" is written by R Unni. The trailers and the poster of the movie had given the notion that it is an art film. However, Unni clarified later that it is not a slow-paced art film, but a suspense thriller meant for all categories of audience.
His previous works are "Bridge" ("Kerala Café"), "Chappa Kurish", "Bachelor Party" and "Kullante Bharya" ("5 Sundarikal").
The story and the cinematography of the film are done by Venu himself. Venu's first directorial venture was "Daya" (1998) written by MT Vasudevan Nair. The film starred Manju Warrier, Krishna and Nedumudi Venu in the lead. It won him many accolades including National Awards for best first film of a director, best costume designer and best choreographer and State Awards for best screenplay, best debut director, best costume designer, best art director and best editor.
"Munnariyippu" is edited by Bina Paul and the music is composed by Bijipal. Jyothish Shankar is the art director while the costumes are designed by Siji Thomas. The film is produced by Ranjith under the banner of Gold Coin Motion Pictures.
