Aadhi Pinisetty and Nikki Galrani's Telugu movie "Malupu", which marks the debut of Sathya Prabhas as director, has received positive reviews and decent ratings from critics.
Written by Sathya Prabhas, "Malupu" is an action thriller film with lot of twists and turns. SaGa (Aadi) and three of his close friends land in a big problem with a Mumbai based don (Mithun Chakravarthy) after they get into a fight with a couple of on the eve of the New Year. How SaGa faces the don and saves himself, his friends and family forms the crux of the story.
The critics say "Malupu" has a very interesting screenplay, but it is tad too long. The first half of the film is dull and lacks entertaining moments. The main story kicks off in the second half, which is full of intensity. It is a decent mystery film with a gripping narration in the second half.
Satya Prabhas Pinisetty's engrossing screenplay, suspense element, Aadhi's performance, Prasan Praveen Shyam's background score and beautiful camera work are the highlights of the movie. Some violent scenes and dragging climax are big drawbacks of the film, say the critics.
The movie has been rated an average of 3 out of 5 ratings. We bring you some critics' verdict and ratings for the film. Read them in the "Malupu" review roundup:
The rom-com in the first half is a bit over-the-top, especially those scenes involving Pragathi. The songs fall flat. The dialogues are just about ok. The second half is full of intensity, with no break given for anything else. This is actually how it should be, but given the Telugu audience's taste for 'extras', this may act as a bit of a dampener. Tamil films obsess over friendship and this film has this obsession on full display. Although emotions are universal, nativity is important, too. The Telugu audience's would like overt rather than subtle narration. Verdict: A mystery film that has gripping screenplay in the second half. A one-time watch.
Malupu is a decent suspense thriller with enough twists and turns. If you manage to sit through the below par first half and forget the unconvincing climax, you can easily give this film a shot for some interesting and thrilling moments.
While most of the film is filled with natural emotions and situations, the mystery behind the whole mishap turns out to be a cinematic one. Also the climax is a bit over the top with unnecessary violence. Director went overboard in elevating the friendship angle. This film would have been much better had the director taken care of the climatic portions. Despite the problems, Malupu has its moments that will leave you awestruck. A definite watch for someone who cherishes different cinema. - See more at: http://www.gulte.com/moviereviews/531/Malupu-Movie-Review#sthash.22GRDwle.dpuf
The film, however, doesn't show consistency. The narration could have been better, especially the part pertaining to the hero and his three friends. Director Satya has done good job in his first attpemt. Bottomline: Malupu is watchable action thriller. A decent effort despite unconvincing climax.
