Nivin Pauly's "Action Hero Biju" and Prithviraj Sukumaran's "Paavada" are running successfully at the US box office, and did good business during the weekend (Feb. 12-14).
The Abrid Shine directorial, which narrates the day-to-day incidents that happen at Janamaithri police station in Kochi, Kerala, has been receiving tremendous response from movie-goers since its release in Kerala on Feb. 4. It is said to have collected approximately Rs 1.59 crore on the opening day from the South Indian state.
The movie was released outside Kerala and in the US on Feb. 5. "Action Hero Biju" collected a gross amount of $31,484 from nine screens on its second weekend at the US box office, and its two-week total is $43,996 [Rs 29.94 lakh], according to Bollywood Hungama. The Nivin Pauly-starrer grossed $10,635 [Rs 7.23 lakh] from two screens on its opening weekend in the US.
G Marthandan's directorial venture "Paavada", released on Jan. 29 in the US, grossed $4,681 from seven screens on the third weekend, taking its total to $47,024 [Rs 32 lakh] in the US alone. The Prithviraj and Anoop Menon-starrer had collected a gross amount of $23,379 [15.86 lakh] from seven screens on the opening weekend and $10,373 from 12 screens in the second weekend at the overseas box office. The makers have also revealed that the movie has collected more than Rs 14 crore (gross) after completing 10,000 shows in Kerala alone.
Meanwhile, Dulquer Salmaan's "Charlie" collected $220 over the weekend, taking its total gross collection to $97,234 (Rs 66.15 lakh) from the US box office in eight weeks of its release.
