Malayalam director and scriptwriter V R Gopalakrishnan was found dead at his residence at Ramanathapuram in Palakkad on Monday, 10 January. He was 60. Reports suggest that he hung himself at his home for reasons unknown. 

The late director is known for his movies such as "Kakkathollayiram", starring Mukesh and Urvashi, "Bharya" with Jagadish and Urvasi as well as Mukesh and Jagathy starrer "Kazhchaykkappuram". He had also scripted Priyadarshan-Mohanlal's hit movies "Vandanam", "Cheppu", Dileep's "Ee Parakkum Thalika", Suresh Gopi's "Anukudumbam.com" and "Pilots". His other movies are "Killadi Raman", and "Kouthuka Varthakal" among others.

Gopalakrishnan had also worked as an associate with director Priyadarshan in the movies "Akkara Akkare Akkare" and "Vellanakalude Nadu". 

Gopalakrishnan, who hails from Thrissur, has been living in Palakkad for quite some time now. He is survived by his wife Geetha and two sons Arjun and Aravind.
