Latest Malayalam movies "Action Hero Biju" and "Puthiya Niyamam" have done well at the overseas box office in the third week of February. The total weekend collection of four Malayalam movies at the US box office is $32,104.
The Nivin Pauly starrer, which narrates the day-to-day incidents that happen at a Janamaithri police station in Kerala, has been garnering positive response from movie-goers ever since its release in Kerala on Feb. 4. The movie, directed by Abrid Shine, has grossed $18,052 from nine screens in the US in the third week of its theatrical run taking a total gross amount of $72,462 [Rs 49.68 lakh], according to Bollywood Hungama. However, the movie has witnessed a drop in the theatre occupancy compared to its second weekend collection — $31,484 -- from the same number of screens.
Megastar Mammootty's "Puthiya Niyamam" also has been receiving good reviews from critics and audiences alike. The Nayantara starrer, which deals with the issues faced by women in the society, has collected a total gross amount of $12,472 [Rs 16.39 lakh] from 45 screens during the first weekend at the US box office. However, it has to be noted that the movie hasn't made any record collection even after being released in 36 more screens than the Nivin Pauly starrer. The movie is expected to do well in the second weekend at the US box office.
Meanwhile, Prithviraj Sukumaran's "Paavada" has collected $49,319 gross [Rs 33.82 lakh] after four weeks of its release in the US, £16,730 [Rs 16.39 lakh] from the UK and $2,814 [Rs 1.39 lakh] from the Australian box office.
