This is not the first time such an incident has happened at the Delhi airport.
A major mishap was averted in April this year after two aircraft came face to face at the runway at Delhi airport. One plane belonged to Air India while the other belonged to Indigo Airlines. The Air Traffic Control's (ATC) timely communication prevented the mishap from happening.
Air India Delhi-Goa Flight AI156 was about to take off from runway 28 at 11.15 am when the ATC asked the pilot to stop and come back to the bay. There were 122 passengers onboard the plane, which finally took off for Goa at 12.50 pm.
In February 2017, an IndiGo Airlines plane entered the wrong runway headed towards a parked Jet Airways aircraft. The IndiGo aircraft, which was set to take off for Vishakhapatnam, was alerted just in time by the Air Traffic Controller (ATC).
IndiGo Airlines later said the incident happened due to "low visibility". The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched a probe into the incident. Several flights got delayed as a result of the incident while some flights arriving in Delhi were diverted because Runway 28 was unavailable for more than an hour.
