A major fire broke out at a commercial building in Surat. According to preliminary reports, the building is located in Surat's textile market in Parvat Patia area.
20 fire tenders are battling to control the fire. According to some reports, the fire started in a 17- storey Textile Gown in the city. Because of the massive stock of textile material stored in the building, it would be sometime before the fire is totally controlled.
No reports of casualties have emerged so far, although television footages showed massive swathe of fire and huge plumes of smoke rising from the building.
India today reports via Twittter that the fire started at Vipul Sarees shop at Orchid Tower. Many people are trapped in the buildings, and rescue efforts are on.
Hundreds of people have gathered around the building, causing traffic jam and chaos on the busy road located Puna area.
