In what will bother the Indian Test team in England, fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah's surgery in England has not been "entirely successful".
According to reports in the Deccan Chronicle, Bumrah, who suffered a thumb injury in the T20I series in Ireland, has not recovered.
"It is a displaced fracture on the left-hand thumb. From what I know, the operation wasn't a great success," the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source, was as quoted by Deccan Chronicle.
Can play with bandages on
The source also added that Bumrah is technically out for three to four weeks and since the injury is on his left hand, the team management could play him if the need arises. The bowler can take part with his hands wrapped up in bandages.
Bumrah has been added to the Indian Test squad and it was informed that he would be fit to take the field in the second Test match, but this recent development might put that plan in jeopardy.
The controversial yo-yo Test also popped out and the source clearly mentioned that he is not a big fan of the process.
"There should be a series of tests conducted with test different parameters. Since all the players are flown specially to Bangalore for the test, I'm sure there is enough time to conduct multiple tests and assess the player completely and not only on endurance," the person added.
The Indian team is currently struggling with injury concerns to their bowlers, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar already ruled out and even Mohammed Shami is not entirely fit.
Shardul Thakur is in the squad and the bowling attack will now be led by Ishant Sharma. Umesh Yadav will be the other option for Virat Kohli. The captain is yet to make a decision of playing with one or two spinners factoring in the dry conditions in England at the moment.
The first match of the five-match series takes place in Nottingham on August 1.
