The opening day collections of Varun Dhawan's action romantic comedy film "Main Tera Hero" (MTH) was affected due to India vs South Africa T20 semi final match.
The film directed by David Dhawan minted ₹6.60 crore from first Friday, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. "Main Tera Hero" had the fourth-highest opening day earnings in 2014.
The top three films with highest opening day income are Salman Khan's "Jai Ho", Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor's "Gunday" and Sunny Leone's "Ragini MMS 2".
The opening day collection is decent, but the film that had the potential to fetch good numbers was backed by positive reviews. The morning shows occupancy was decent, but the occupancy reduced during the evening shows due to cricket match.
However, the film has put a decent opening day show with 6 crore. Varun has now become the new comer with the highest opening day for a second film, according to Tanuj Garg, CEO of Balaji Motion Pictures.
The film is expected to pick on second day i.e. Saturday and bring in good amount from the box office. But again on Sunday the collection will be affected as India and Sri Lanka T20 World Cup final match is being held.
"Main Tera Hero" is Balaji's third film released this year that has been affected by cricket matches. The other two films were "Shaadi Ke Side Effects" and "Ragini MMS 2".
But unlike "MTH", Sunny Leone's horror thriller "Ragini MMS 2" survived at the box office and raked in good figures too.
Meanwhile, the lead actor Varun is overwhelmed by the response he has received from audience.
"#MainTeraHero. overwhelmed by the response and the reviews.send me pictures of where you guys watching the film," he tweeted on Friday.
The masala entertainer film also features Nargis Fakhri, Ileana D'Cruz, Anupam Kher, Arunoday Singh, Raju Kher and Rajpal Yadav in important roles.
