Leading utility vehicle manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) launched the more affordable, automatic transmission-equipped XUV500 SUV on Monday, May 9. The six-speed automatic transmission is now available with entry-level W6 FWD variant and it has been priced at Rs. 14.29 lakh, ex-showroom Navi Mumbai. The XUV500 with automatic transmission had earlier been reserved for the top-spec W8 FWD, W10 FWD, W10 AWD variants which are priced in the range of Rs. 15.87 lakh to Rs. 17.80 lakh, ex-showroom, Navi Mumbai.
The XUV500 features second-generation automatic transmission sourced from Aisin, Japan. This is the same unit that underpins the Mahindra XUV500 automatic launched in Australia recently.
"The automatic transmission of the new-age XUV500 has resonated very well with our customers since we launched it in November 2015. I am sure that the availability of automatic transmission across variants and a range of price points will now render this technology more accessible to a larger base of customers and make the XUV500 a more attractive proposition amongst a wide spectrum of buyer," said Vivek Nayer, chief marketing officer of M&M Ltd's automotive division, in a statement.
Both the automatic and manual transmission-equipped XUV500 are powered by a 2.2-litre mHawk engine that produces 140bhp at 3,750rpm and 330Nm of torque in the range of 1,600-2,800rpm. Mahindra XUV500 competes against Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and Honda BR-V in the Indian market.
