Mahindra & Mahindra has been refreshing its product offerings with new launches and updates in a bid to turn around the diminishing UV sales in 2015. The company launched the TUV300 compact SUV in September.
Next up seems to be the XUV500 with automatic transmission. Mahindra & Mahindra has invited the media on 25 November (Wednesday) to discuss a development on the XUV500. Since the SUV got a facelift in May 2015, the media invite is widely regarded to be for the launch of the automatic version.
Mahindra is already selling the six-speed auto box in its popular Scorpio SUV. The transmission is sourced from Drivetrain Systems International (DSI) of Australia. However, it is not clear if the XUV500 will get the same auto gearbox or the rumoured all-new automatic transmission. The utility vehicle major had earlier confirmed XUV500 automatic for the Australian market.
Apart from the transmission, XUV500 automatic will carry over the 2.2-litre mHawk engine that produces 140bhp at 3750rpm and 330Nm of torque in the range of 1,600-2,800rpm. The SUV features disc brakes on all four 17-inch wheels.
When launched, the Mahindra XUV500 will compete against the Hyundai Creta diesel which is also available in automatic transmission. The automatic version is expected to be pricier by Rs 50,000-75,000 over the regular model, reports IndianAutosBlog.
