We have a bit of bad news for auto lovers in India waiting for the arrival of the SsangYong Tivoli compact SUV. The emerging reports suggest that Mahindra does not have plans to bring any more SsangYong products to India at least for now.
And the latest bit of information came from Pavan Kumar Goenka, the executive director of Mahindra & Mahindra, at the ongoing 56th ACMA (Automotive Components Manufacturer Association) Convention. While the reason for the drop of any such plan is unclear, it is believed that the it could be because of the poor response for SsangYong Rexton in India.
It was believed that Mahindra would launch the Tivoli compact SUV in the country by the end of this year. The company had showcased the model at the Auto Expo 2016 in February. Not just that, the SUV was also caught on camera quite a few times after that while it was undergoing testing on Indian roads. It is now being said that Mahindra could have dropped the Tivoli launch plans to work on a new SUV, which would use the same platform as that of the Tivoli. However, there is no official word on this yet.
Mahindra SsangYong Tivoli was expected to take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, Nissan Terrano and Hyundai Creta in India. The compact SUV, which measures 4,195mm in length, 1,795mm in width and 1,590mm in height, with the wheelbase of 2600mm in terms of dimension, is sold in the international markets with petrol and diesel engine options. While the four-cylinder petrol unit develops 126bhp at 6000rpm and 160Nm of torque, the diesel unit churns out 113bhp at 3400-4000rpm and 300Nm at 1500-2500rpm.
