A prototype of Mahindra's upcoming Scorpio automatic has been spied undergoing tests in the country, indicating that the new variant of SUV could reach the market soon.
The latest set of spy shots of Mahindra Scorpio automatic variant comes from Motoroids, which caught the SUV on test in Gurgaon. In the images, the test mule is seen wearing an old VXi badge, which is not there in the new Scorpio line-up. The new Scorpio facelift is available in five variants -- S2, S4, S6, S6+, S8 and S10.
Mahindra launched its new Scorpio facelift in September and the SUV has been earning tremendous response since then. It now looks like Mahindra is ready to bring an automatic variant of the Scorpio facelift.
Although the company is yet to officially confirm the launch details of the new automatic Scorpio, emerging reports on the web suggest that the launch will take place in early 2015.
Apart from the change in the gearbox, there is nothing much to talk about the new upcoming Scorpio automatic as the SUV is already in the market. The automatic variant of Scorpio will also maintain the same body kit and features of the existing version. The engine too is likely to be the same. It is also understood that the Mahindra is likely to offer automatic only on the top variants of the Scorpio.
The power will come from the same 2.2l mHawk diesel engine, which is tuned to pump in 120 PS power @ 4000 rpm and 280 Nm torque between 1800 to 2800 rpm, mated to an automatic gearbox. As for the pricing, the new automatic Scorpio is expected to get a price tag of around ₹1 lakh higher than the current model.
Currently, the base variant of the Scorpio is powered by the 2.5-liter 4 cylinder m2DiCr diesel engine, which can churn out a power of 75bhp @3,200rpm and a peak torque of 195Nm @1,400-2,200rpm, coupled to 5 speed manual transmissions and the other models are powered by 2.2 litre mHawk engine. The SUV is prcied in the range of ₹7.98 lakh to ₹11.46 lakh ((ex-showroom Mumbai).
