The popular UV maker Mahindra has decided to discontinue the Scorpio automatic in India. An official confirmation came through the Twitter handle of the company after the issue of the model's unavailability was raised. Earlier, Scorpio AT was removed from the website of the company with an updated price list of manual variants of the SUV.
While the reason for the removal of the Scorpio AT is not known at this point of time, various reports suggest that poor sales could be one of the many. Interestingly, this comes at a time when the reports of the arrival of the new Scorpio facelift have been surfacing online.
Mahindra had launched the Scorpio automatic in June 2015. The model was available in the top-end S10 variant of the SUV in both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions. Visually, the automatic version of Scorpio had the same body kit and the style of the current model, except for the 'automatic' badging.
Under the hood, the AT variant of Scorpio packed the same 2.2l mHawk diesel engine, which is tuned to pump in 118bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 280Nm torque between 1,800 to 2,800rpm with an automatic six-speed gearbox.
Mahindra's upcoming Scorpio facelift has already hit the Indian roads for testing. In its new avatar, Scorpio is expected to see changes at the front and rear along with the retuned engine. The 2.2 litre m-Hawk engine in the new Scorpio is expected to be tuned to develop power of 140bhp, a push from 120bhp from the current model. Mahindra Scorpio currently comes with three engine options--2.2 litre, 1.99 litre and a 2.5 litre.
