Mahindra and Mahindra is reportedly working on the most affordable electrically powered compact SUV project. The compact SUV with electric powertrain is reportedly codenamed S107.
After the electric version of the Verito sedan, the S107 is the next major project of the utility vehicle specialist, reports ET Auto. The project aims at convergence of Mahindra's UV know how and electric division's environment friendly engine for future ready products.
"If anyone is preparing feverishly for a disruptive future of mobility, it is Mahindra," group chairman Anand Mahindra had told shareholders at the 70th annual general meeting earlier this month. Mahindra's Chief Executive for Automotive Pravin Shah told to ET that the company is considering electrification of the KUV model, but the final decision is yet to be taken.
Mahindra Electric, formerly known as Mahindra Reva, had recently launched the e-Verito sedan. The company also sells the E2o electric hatchback. It is now planning to launch the eSupro in the commercial vehicle segment.
The Halo electric sports car concept was the highlight of the Mahindra pavilion at Auto Expo 2014. The move of Mahindra to develop electric compact SUV is seen as a fresh attempt to boost its electric division which is focusing on the overseas markets and fleet operators.
