Popular UV maker Mahindra is set to reveal the name of its new upcoming compact SUV, codenamed S101, in India on 18 December.
Auto lovers in the country have already seen numerous spy shots and leaked reports of the S101, and from what we have known, the mini-SUV is expected to hit the showrooms in early 2016. Now the company has confirmed that the name of Mahindra's upcoming compact SUV will be made public on 18 December. The rumours swirling on the internet suggest Mahindra's new micro-SUV is likely to be monikered XUV100.
Built on an all-new monocoque platform, Mahindra S101 is expected to compete with the likes of Maruti's tall-boy WagonR is and Chevrolet Beat.
Under the hood, the S101 is expected to include 1.2-litre diesel and petrol mills. While the petrol mill is likely to be an all-new engine developed by the company, the diesel mill could be the watered-down version of the 1.5-litre mHawk engine.
Chances are Mahindra could launch S101 in January 2016 before the Auto Expo. Expected to be priced round Rs 4 lakh, Mahindra S101 will get pillar-mounted rear-door handles like Chevrolet Beat. Inside the cabin, the S101 is expected to get a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, bench-like seats in the front and a touchscreen infotainment system.
