Mahindra's new micro-SUV will be unveiled in India on 18 December (Friday). And now in the hours leading up to the event, an automobile website has revealed the engine details of the S101.
According to a report in OverDrive, Mahindra S101's new petrol engine unit will be called the mFalcon. Mahindra S101, the sub four meter compact SUV, is expected to get an all new 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. The engine will also have 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre displacement in bigger and future models. The report also adds that the S101 is likely to get tiny turbocharger.
As we have known for some time, the diesel engine of Mahindra S101 is expected to be the watered-down version of the 1.5-litre mHawk engine. Both the petrol and diesel engines will be mated to a manual 5 speed transmission. There could be an AMT variant also in future as there is an increasing demand for the AMT equipped models. Mahindra's TUV300 AMT variant has been getting strong demand in the country since its launch.
S101, supposedly monikered KUV100, is expected to take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki WagonR and Chevrolet Beat in India.
As for styling, Mahindra S01 is expected to feature Mahindra's signature front grille, new head lamp cluster and body cladding. Inside the cabin, the compact SUV is expected to get a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, bench-like seats in the front and a touchscreen infotainment system.
