The compact SUV segment is among the fastest growing divisions in the Indian automobile industry in past couple of years. Maruti Suzuki launched Vitara Brezza last month, while Hyundai's compact SUV is in the pipeline. The EcoSport is one of the early entries in the compact SUV segment and carries a reputation of a balanced product. Utility vehicle major Mahindra also tested waters in this segment with the Quanto launched in 2012. However, the trimmed down version of the Xylo failed to stir the segment. In its latest avatar as the NuvoSport, Mahindra is getting ready to battle out with the Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport.

Engine specifications
Newest among the three, the Mahindra NuvoSport is powered by mHawk100 1493cc diesel engine that develops 100bhp at 3,750rpm and 240Nm of torque at 1600 - 2800rpm range. The NuvoSport is available with five-speed manual as well as AMT transmission.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is powered by 200 DDis 1248cc diesel engine develops 88.5bhp at 4,000rpm and 200Nm of torque at 1,750rpm, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, Ford EcoSport's engine is a 4-cylinder 1498cc unit that develops 90bhp power and 204Nm torque mated 5-speed manual transmission.
The NuvoSport has clear advantage in terms of power as well as torque among the three. In addition to this, the NuvoSport is the only vehicle that is also available in AMT transmission.
Dimensions
Mahindra NuvoSport measures 3,985mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,870mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,760mm. The NuvoSport comes with 176mm ground clearance and 412-litres of boot capacity.
The Vitara Brezza measures 3,995mm in length, 1,790mm in width, 1,640mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,500mm. It comes with 198mm ground clearance and 328-litres of boot capacity. Ford EcoSport, on the other hand, is 3,999mm long, 1765mm wide and 1708mm tall along with 2520mm wheelbase. The EcoSport has 346-litre boot capacity. Being compact SUVs, all three vehicles come under the four-metre length category. The NuvoSport is the only vehicle that offers seven seats and it comes with the biggest boot capacity of 412-litres.
Fuel Efficiency
Mahindra claims the NuvoSport would return fuel efficiency of 17.45kmpl, which is not impressive enough in comparison to its rivals. The Vitara Brezza comes with a class leading claimed fuel efficiency of 24.3 kmpl, while Ford EcoSport returns 22.27kmpl.
