It is not a secret that the popular UV-maker Mahindra is readying a new MPV for the Indian market and the work on the unnamed MPV is believed to be progressing rapidly. Although the upcoming Mahindra MPV has already made quite a few appearances on the web through spy shots, the details of it are still kept under wraps.
The MPV, which is expected to rival Toyota's popular Innova Crysta is speculated to come to the Indian market in 2017. It is internally called as U321 and the MPV has been designed and developed by Mahindra's North American Technical Centre (MNATC) in Troy, Michigan. Mahindra's new MPV is rumoured to be monikered as TUV500 is expected to be priced starting at around Rs 10 lakh.
The power in the MPV is likely to come from 2.2 litre diesel engine that can churn out 140bhp of power and 330Nm of peak torque. We also hear that Mahindra could roll out a new 1.5-litre petrol engine or the 1.99 litre mHawk diesel unit in the MPV. The transmission is expected to be handled by six-speed manual gearbox and there could also be the automatic variant on offer.
It is likely to boast a boxy design with MPV stance and will underpin an all-new platform. The MPV is likely to be a seven or eight-seater model. In India, the MPV is likely to be e positioned above the Xylo. The MPV is likely to get chrome finished grille, integrated LED daytime running lights and upmarket interior.
