India's utility vehicles major Mahindra & Mahindra stepped into the premium MPV space on Monday (September 3) with all new ground up model, the Marazzo. The Anand Mahindra-led company has launched the Marazzo at a time when MPVs are losing its sheen in India.

Having said that, Toyota's Innova Crysta and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV are finding healthy sales in India despite all other struggling MPV models. The lack of proper premium MPV in Mahindra's stable could have prompted the company to throw their hat in the ring.

In all aspects, the Marazzo is an all-new vehicle. It has got all new design, new chassis, new engine and others. Can it topple the MPV hierarchy in India which is mastered by Toyota Innova Crysta? Let's find out!

Mahindra Marazzo- Design

Mahindra claims Marazzo's design has inspired from a shark. In line with the theme, Marazzo gets a toothy grille finished in chrome and shark tail-like tail lamps. The twin-pod headlamps with projectors are similar to XUV500. The sculpted front bumper has a wide air dam and the overall front design is more mature and contemporary.

The side and rear profiles are without any drama and in line with typical MPV proportions. However, creases on the body give some liveliness and it takes away the usual blandness of any MPV. Raising window line, a chrome garnish connecting tail lamps and dual-tone rear bumper are inviting additions.

Mahindra Marazzo- Interior

Inside the cabin, the Marazzo is a big step up. The piano black shaded dashboard is upmarket while the use of beige and faux-aluminium adds flavour. A touchscreen infotainment screen at the centre of the dash is frameless, adding to the class.

The Marazzo also boasts roof-mounted AC vents which Mahindra claims is the industry's first surround cool technology. The seat upholstery looks premium and Mahindra has defiantly added freshness inside the cabin.

Mahindra Marazzo- competition check

Toyota offers Innova Crysta from Rs 15.18 lakh (ex-Delhi) for diesel variants and hence, Marazzo is significantly cheaper than the popular MPV in India at present. On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga's top-end diesel trim is priced at Rs 10.69 lakh (ex-Delhi). Mahindra & Mahindra played smart in terms of pricing Marazzo by clearly sandwiching between the Innova Crysta and Ertiga.
