Mahindra & Mahindra's most affordable SUV, the KUV100, entered the market on Jan. 15, 2016. Priced at Rs 4.42 lakh to Rs 5.91 lakh for petrol models and Rs 5.22 lakh to Rs 6.76 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune) for diesel models, the KUV100 targets customers looking for compact SUVs in the hatchback price range.
A report in AutocarIndia indicates the waiting period for the KUV100 is now close to two months. Both the petrol and diesel variants are reportedly high in demand and the waiting period is the same for both models. The report also suggests that the colours white and silver are the most sought after and many of the bookings are for these two colors.
Mahindra started taking bookings for the KUV100 from Dec. 19, 2015, through its dealer network. Apart from this, Flipkart and Mahindra's own online selling platform, M2ALL, accepts bookings for all models of the KUV100. It was reported earlier that Mahindra aims to sell 80,000-90,000 units of the KUV100 annually. The company currently has a production capacity of 9,000 units of KUV100 at its Chakan plant in Maharashtra, which will be increased to 12,000 units in less than six months.
The KUV100 packs Mahindra's newly-developed mFalcon engines and is offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. While the petrol 1.2-litre mFalcon G80 engine is tuned to churn out 82bhp and 114Nm, the 1.2-litre mFalcon D75 diesel engine can develop 77bhp and a peak torque of 190Nm. Both engines are mated to five-speed manual transmission.
