The Mahindra KUV100 compact SUV was launched in India last month. The Indian utility vehicle major opened booking for the SUV from Dec.19, 2015 through its dealer network as well as online sources selling website Flipkart and Mahindra's online selling platform M2ALL.
A month after the launch, the compact SUV garnered over 21,000 bookings. "Since its launch last month, the KUV100 has been received well in the market. We have crossed 21,000 bookings and 1.75 lakh inquiries," Pravin Shah, president & chief executive (Automotive) of Mahindra & Mahindra, told PTI. The compact SUV at present commands a waiting period around 3 to 4 months depending on the variant, Shah added.
To address the increased demand, Mahindra is working to increase the production to 12,000 units from the current production capacity of 9,000 units at its Chakan plant in Maharashtra.
Priced between Rs 4.42 lakh and Rs 5.91 lakh for the petrol models and Rs 5.22 lakh to Rs 6.76 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune) for the diesel models, the KUV100 is offered in four variants — K2, K4, K6 and K8 — and three sub-variants — K2+, K4+ and K6+.
Under the hood, KUV100 packs newly-developed mFalcon engines. The petrol 1.2-litre mFalcon G80 engine is tuned to churn out 82bhp and 114Nm and the 1.2-litre mFalcon D75 diesel engine can develop 77bhp and a peak torque of 190Nm. Both the engines will be mated to five-speed manual gearbox.
