Popular UV maker Mahindra and Mahindra launched its new subcompact SUV KUV00 in the Indian market on 15 January. The starting price of Mahindra KUV100, which is targeting the young and first-time buyers of the country, is Rs 4.42 lakh (ex showroom, Pune).
With KUV100, Mahindra hopes to replicate what Renault Kwid did in the market by targeting an unchartered territory between hatchback and SUV. According to Auto Car professional, the UV maker aims at selling 80,000-90,000 units of KUV100 annually, with an average projection of 7,000 units of the model per month from April this year. The company will also start exporting its new model from April. New financial schemes for college students to buy KUV100 are also being worked on by the company. Mahindra has also tied-up with the online retailer Flipkart to sell its new SUV in India.
Mahindra KUV100, the new sub-compact model that is pinned to rival Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10, is offered in four variants -- K2, K4, K6 and K8 -- and three sub-variants – K2+, K4+ and K6+, KUV100 -- come donned in seven exciting colours -- Fiery Orange, Flamboyant Red, Dazzling Silver, Aquamarine, Pearl White, Designer Grey and Midnight Black.
Under the hood, KIUV100 packs Mahindra's newly-developed mFalcon engines and is offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. While the petrol 1.2-litre mFalcon G80 engine is tuned to churn out 82bhp and 114Nm, the 1.2-litre mFalcon D75 diesel engine can develop 77bhp and a peak torque of 190Nm. Its transmission is shouldered by a five-speed manual gearbox in both the diesel and petrol versions.
Built on a monocoque chassis, the diesel models of Mahindra KUV100 claim to offer a mileage of 25.32 kmpl and the petrol promises to deliver 18.15 kmpl.
