Superstar Mahesh Babu's SPYder is reportedly set to clash with big-ticket Bollywood movies like Toilet - Ek Prem Katha starring Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma's film The Ring.
SPYder is one of the much-talked about and highly-awaited southern movies for two reasons. Firstly, it marks the debut of Mahesh Babu in the Tamil film industry, and secondly, the superstar has joined hands with ace director AR Murugadoss for the first time. The movie has already generated a lot of curiosity among film-goers in the south India.
This bilingual action-thriller, which is being simultaneously made in Tamil and Telugu, was expected to complete its shooting by the end of May and hit the theatres on June 23. But its release has been postponed due to delay in its production. The latest buzz in the industry is that SPYder will be released in cinema halls on August 11.
"Originally, the film was slated for release on June 23. Since the shoot will go on till May end, it's very unlikely for the film to come out in June. Hence, the makers are planning to release it on August 11," IANS quoted a source from the film unit as saying.
If we are to go by this source's statement, SPYder will clash with Toilet and The Ring, which are also scheduled to be released in theatres on August 11. Both Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar have got huge fan following in south India, where their movies are expected to release in a large number of screens. They are sure to affect the collection of the Mahesh Babu starrer.
Mahesh Babu is one of the most popular actors down south, but has suffered a setback with the failure of Brahmotsavam. The superstar is desperately looking for a big hit. He is also trying hard to expand the market for his films in Tamil Nadu. If he does not wake up and advance or postpone its release, he is sure to score another dud in his career.
SPYder is being made with a whopping budget of Rs. 110 crore and likely to be released in Hindi. Mahesh is playing an intelligence bureau officer in the movie, while Rakul Preet Singh essays the female lead. Actor-filmmaker SJ Suryah will play the role of an antagonist.
Produced by Tagore Madhu, the film will have Harris Jayaraj's music.
