Auspicious Hindu festival Maha Shivratri, which falls on 17 February this year, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is celebrated with religious fervour by devotees.
It is not just celebrated in India but also in other regions including Nepal, where Lord Shiva is worshipped.
Maha Shivratri is said to be the day when Lord Shiva married Goddess Parvati. Thus, the day is the union of Shiva and Shakti, the two greatest forces of the Universe.
The night of the occasion, unmarried women pray to get a husband like Lord Shiva and devotees also worship the God to achieve success and drive away evil spirits.
On this auspicious festival, several celebrities wished their fans on social media. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, comedian Kapil Sharma, actor Riteish Deshmukh and many other big names greeted their followers through Twitter.
