A pet dog helped a 14-year-old girl escape her rapists in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district. The dog rushed to the spot and bit one of the accused who was forcing himself on the victim.

According to the police, the culprits are habitual offenders who were known for assaulting women in the area. The incident occurred on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday (August 18-19) but the victim reported the matter on Sunday as she was fearing a backlash from the accused, says India Today's report.

After getting a complaint from the victim's family, police filed a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Further, rape was confirmed after the girl was sent for a medical examination.

Background
As per police probe, the incident happened when the girl stepped out from her house to fetch some hay from the nearby adjoining barn.

Reshu Ahirwar (39) and his friend Puneet (24), attacked the girl and took her to a deserted place. Sensing trouble, the girl's pet dog bit Puneet. The accused then attacked the dog, but it fought back and continued to bark. The girl then managed to escape and raise an alarm.

Both Ahirwar and Puneet are repeat offenders and were earlier arrested in alcohol smuggling case. The accused were out on bail when they raped the girl.
