Manchester United and England full-back Luke Shaw has had a revival in his form this season, which is great news for the Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho.
Shaw's excellent form was rewarded with a return to the English national team, and ahead of their UEFA Nations League game against Spain, the Manchester United player revealed that he nearly had his leg amputated following his horrific injury against PSV in the Champions League in 2015.
"I nearly lost my leg, I was actually really close to losing my leg and I never knew that until six months after when the doctor told me. Of course, if I knew that I would [still] never have stopped, even if he had told me there was a worry, I would have tried [to carry on playing football]," said Shaw.
He said that if he was flown back from Eindhoven, he probably would have lost his leg: "At the time, they were thinking about flying me back [from Eindhoven] and if I'd have flown back, I would probably have lost my leg because of the blood clots and stuff in the leg."
Shaw's future at Old Trafford was not assured ahead of the season as it seemed like Mourinho was not a fan of the English left-back. However, the Englishman's hard work in pre-season seemingly impressed his club manager and he's taken that form into the first four games of the season. He has also scored his first goal for the club in the first match of the Premier League against Leicester City.
The English full-back has won 7 caps for his country since making his debut in 2014 and will hope to add to that tally in this week's UEFA Nations League game against Spain and a friendly against Switzerland. Shaw was picked in the squad ahead of club-mate Ashley Young and will vie for the left-back spot with Tottenham's Danny Rose.
