Netflix has officially confirmed that Luke Cage is getting a second season.
The announcement was made through Twitter with a tweet that featured a short video. It featured a neon sign in the window of Pop's Barber Shop reading "Season 2 coming soon" with Luke Cage opening theme song. The post is also captioned as "Always forward", which Luke Cage takes to heart throughout season 1.
Created by Archie Goodwin and John Romita Sr, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) follows the evolution of its titular hero after he relocated to Harlem and tried to redeem the bad situation in his life following a failed relationship with Jessica Jones. He is one of the most popular street level heroes in the Marvel Universe who possesses super strength and unbreakable skin.
After Daredevil and Jessica Jones, Luke Cage is the third marvel series to receive a second season when Jessica Jones does not have a release date for season 2 yet but might release in early 2018. Marvel's Netflix line-up already features the first seasons of Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher.
Luke Cage stars Mike Colter, Mahershala Ali (Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes), Alfre Woodard (politician Mariah Dillard), Simone Missick (police detective Misty Knight), Theo Rossi (criminal Shades), Frank Whaley (NYPD detective Rafael Scarfe), Rosario Dawson (nurse Claire Temple), and Sonia Braga (Claire Temple's mother, Soledad Temple).
Luke Cage is also a friend and business partner with Iron Fist, who will also be getting his own series next year on Netflix starring Finn Jones.
Luke Cage season 2 will possibly follow Marvel's Iron Fist and the crossover Marvel's Defenders series, which will both land on Netflix in 2017. No specific release date for season 2 has been confirmed yet.
