The Seattle Seahawks will look to firm their grip on the NFC West with a victory over beleaguered division rivals Los Angeles Rams in Thursday Night Football. The Rams are without a head coach coming into this game making the Seahawks clear favourites to pick up their ninth win of the season.
Seattle are comfortably perched top of the NFC West with an 8-4 record, with their closest rival being Arizona, who are 5-7. With the Rams at 4-9, the Seattle Seahawks will know they are up against a team with very little to play for.
That doesn't mean Seattle can just walk over Los Angeles, of course, but this will be a game that the Seahawks will fancy picking up a victory from, even after a disappointing blowout loss to the Green Bay Packers.
"It was a really short week," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. "It's hard to imagine it's (game day) already for us, but it has been good. Guys have done a nice job.
"We've had to adjust the tempo, as you do during this time, and everyone responded really well. And it feels like we've culminated a week, so we're ready to go and looking forward to it."
The Rams, owned by Arsenal majority shareholder Stan Kroenke, fired their head coach Jeff Fisher earlier this week and are already looking at a fresh beginning next season. With a new head coach to hire – John Fassel will be the interim – there is pressure on the current general manager Les Snead, whose job is also at stake.
"It would be a mistake right now to say we're satisfied with where we're at on a personnel side and to ensure that Les would be back," Rams COO Kevin Demoff said. "I think Les would be the first person to stand up here and say the same thing.
"We sat down with Les, and, again, this team is not where it needs to be, and we need to own up to that from a coaching perspective, from a personnel perspective, from an administration perspective. I think all of us need to get better."
Los Angeles will hope things do get better starting with a victory over the Seattle Seahawks at the CenturyLink Field.
