Moonlight, a powerful coming-of-age story, is already generating Oscar buzz and so does Ryan Gosling-starring musical La La Land.
Moonlight has been named 'Best Picture of the Year' by Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) on Sunday, December 4. Revolving around the life of a gay black man coming-of-age, the movie picked up the awards Best Director for writer-director Barry Jenkins, Best Supporting Actor for co-star Mahershala Ali, and Best Cinematography for James Laxton's work behind the camera.

The LAFCA voted La La Land as best picture runner-up while New York Film Critics Circle gave it a nod for the best picture.
Damien Chazelle's modern musical, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling presumably is a front-runner for the Academy Award's best picture category. La La Land was also garnered acclaim for its music score by Justin Hurwitz, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
Winning just one LAFCA Award for the musical score, it emerged as the runner-up five times, coming in at second place for Best Picture, Best Director, Editing, Production Design, and Cinematography.
