Bollywood's newest release "Lootera" which garnered critical appreciation is earning below the expected mark at the box office.
The romantic period drama earned a total of ₹23.3 crore till Tuesday from 1,000 screens in India. According to early estimates, the film raked in ₹1.9 crore on its sixth day at the domestic box office, taking the total to ₹25.2 crore.
"#Lootera Weekend 18.5 cr, Mon 2.7 cr, Tue 2.1 cr. Total: ₹23.3 cr nett... Wed numbers being compiled," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The film starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha in is likely to earn between ₹26 crore - ₹27 crore in its first week, which is way below the mark considering the reviews.
The film failed to earn in the range of "Raanjhanaa" and "Aashiqui 2". All three films fall in the same romance genre and were released in a limited number of screens in India.
The first weekend collections of the films were in the same range of ₹19 crore - ₹20 crore.
While "Raanjhanaa" and "Aashiqui 2" picked up during weekdays, "Lootera" collections dropped drastically.
"Raanjhanaa" and "Aashiqui 2" ended their first week collections by earning more than ₹35 crore each, but "Lootera" is make less than ₹30 crore in its first week in India.
On a positive note, producers of "Lootera" have earned the production cost by selling the film's satellite rights. Also, the music rights have raked in some money.
