Romantic flick "Lootera", which is touted as one of the best films to release this year, has raked in approximately ₹27 crore in its first week at the Indian box office.
The collections of the film, starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha, remained stable over the weekdays but was on the lower side. The film failed to hit the mark in the overseas market where it minted ₹6.76 ($1.13 million) in six days. The domestic and overseas collections of the film now stand at ₹33.76 crore.
"#Lootera - India: Wknd 18.5 cr, Mon 2.7 cr, Tue 2.1 cr, Wed 1.9 cr. Total: ₹25.2 cr... Overseas - till Wed: $ 1.13 million [₹6.76 cr]," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
Despite getting good reviews from critics and audiences, "Lootera" had a dull start but picked on Saturday and Sunday.
The film was expected to continue its run during the weekdays, but surprisingly its collections declined drastically on Monday.
"People have loved the film, but the problem is not many people went to see it," Girish Wankhede, General Manager, Marketing and Public Relations, Cinemax India Ltd, said.
"Lootera" has already raked in the production cost from the domestic and overseas box office. Also, satellite rights and music rights of the film have brought in profit for the film's producers.
The big-budget film is set to face competition from new release "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag". The biopic directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has received rave reviews from critics.
