London Olympics 2012, which started on July 27 with a spectacular opening ceremony, is coming to an end tonight. The world's biggest sporting extravaganza will be formally closed a few hours from now.
The closing ceremony of the London Olympics 2012 will be telecast Live in India at 1.30 AM IST (August 13) and expected to end at 4.15 AM at the Olympic Stadium. The national television channel Doordarshan, EPSN and Star Sports telecast the events of the sporting event.
If the opening ceremony was colourful with cinematic touch by director Danny Boyle giving cinematic touch and the lighting of the Olympic flame in the Cauldron, the closing ceremony will be taken care of by director Kim Gavin with extinguishing of the flame.
Unlike in the opening ceremony where the participants entered the stadium country wise, the athletes from across the world will march together in closing ceremony to depict 'oneness'. It will also include a Handover from the Host City to Rio de Janeiro where 2016 Olympics will be held.
The closing ceremony, which is themed 'A Symphony of British Music', will saw popular British music bands and artistes like the Spice Girls, Annie Lennox and One Direction perform. It is also reported that Jessie J, Tinie Tempah, Brian May, Annie Lennox and George Michael will perform. Rumours are also doing the rounds that Madness, The Who and Beady Eye will perform at the closing ceremony.
In the opening ceremony on July 27, director Danny Boyle, the mastermind behind the opening ceremony, gave a feel of the reel world. The stadium was turned into a film set with green lawn, flowers, trees and everything that you see outside the stadium.
A helicopter carrying Daniel Craig hovered over the 80,000 capacity Olympic stadium, giving a "James Bond" feel. Popular comedian Rowan Atkinson was funny as ever in his Mr Bean character. Watching the ceremony was like watching a beautiful play in a theatre.
