A massive fire engulfed Grenfell Tower, a 27-storey apartment block on Latimer Road, west London, early Wednesday, with reports coming that several residents are trapped inside their homes. The fire incident happened at around 01:16 BST in London.
Around 40 fire engines and 200 firefighters are at the scene to tackle the blaze, and rescue workers are evacuating people, London Fire Brigade said.
Metropolitan Police said the residents are being evacuated and being treated for their injuries. According to The Guardian, the high-rise building has around 120 homes. Alice Ross, The Guardian reporter, gave a devastating account of the incident and said that residents are screaming and shouting for help.
"People can be seen at the windows, including one man waving a blanket from the window. People from neighbouring estates are huddled outside in their pyjamas near the flaming building, some shouting "put your head out the window" or calling the man with the blanket to shout his flat numbers so they can guide the fire services to him. Fire officers are spraying his window with water to try and douse the flames," she told the website.
