The Topshop Unique London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2016 show was a celebrity-packed affair, taking place at Londons Tate Britain museum. Supermodels Karlie Kloss, Lara Stone and Suki Waterhouse were among the front row stars. Kloss said she is not used to watching catwalk shows but this one received her seal of approval.
Ive only sat and watched shows once or twice before so this is still a very new experience for me, but I love seeing the clothes. The furs were really beautiful and there was this dress at the end that closed the show... Im already planning where Im going to wear that to, said Kloss.
Kate Mosss sister Lottie was also in attendance for the show, which featured oversized military fur-collar bomber jackets, oversized knits and skinny long johns. Embellished velvet slip dresses and corseted minis added a touch of glamour to eveningwear. Arcadia Group CEO Philip Green commented on Burberrys decision to retail catwalk collections immediately from September, saying the business model is good for Topshop.
The customers are buy now, wear now: they see it, they want to buy it. If we go and ask a customer in three months time do they remember what they saw on the catwalk they wont even remember. I think it helps us because its what we do. So you know were in the catwalk business every week so doing somethings thats fresh, or new, or available now – perfect for us, he said.
Green added that Topshop has to put on a great catwalk during London Fashion Week to keep up with the competition. As the only high street retailer, weve got to do something great, just to sit in the mix of people, like theyre all running off to McQueen or wherever everyone was going. If we want to play in that arena then weve got to do something great. I mean I think this is a beautiful venue. Its about caring and doing it properly. I think just putting up a tent somewhere is not the answer. Weve got to do it properly or not do it.
Having previously worked on collaborations with Kate Moss and Kendall and Kylie Jenner, the retailer is about to launch its latest one with Beyonce. Well we are ten days away from announcing our Beyonce brand, our athletic brand, which is going to be Monday week, and we are going to launch the brand with a show on the 10th April... so shes coming here, and shes going to be part of the show to launch the brand, Green said.
London Fashion Week runs until 23 February.
