The ballot battle in Telangana is going to turn into a triangular fight between Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), Congress and combined TDP-BJP.
CPI is also in the fray and Congress and TRS have failed to forge any pre-election alliance. Telangana is to become a separate state on 2 June 2014. Before that, elections to the State Assembly and the Lok Sabha are to be held in the undivided Andhra Pradesh simultaneously on 30 April. Telangana has 119 Assembly and 17 Lok Sabha constituencies.
While TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, who is buoyed with the BJP alliance, is promising all-round and fast development of Andhra Pradesh or the Seemandhra and Telangana, if the TDP-BJP is voted to power.
In Telangana, TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao (KCR), who has declined a merger with Congress, post the passage of Telangana bill, is also promising on development for the new state, if his TRS party formed the first state government. He called upon people to wipe out political corruption through this election.
KCR is contesting from both Medak Lok Sabha and Gajwel Assembly constituencies in Telangana. He sought people of Telangana to give one chance to form government that could work with commitment for the state's development, social justice and good governance. His daughter Kavita is also contesting from Medak Lok Sabha constituency.
TRS is contesting the polls alone and is claiming the credit in the achievement of separate Telangana state.
In another development, actress Vijayashanti, who was expected to contest to Lok Sabha from Medak constituency, is said to have decided to contest for the Assembly from the same constituency. She deserted TRS and joined Congress.
Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayan is contesting from Malkajigiri Lok Sabha constituency in Hyderabad. On 7 April, Tollywood top director Rajamauli participated in a campaign rally and supported Narayan, who filed his nomination earlier in the day. Rajamauli called upon voters to root out corruption by exercising their right of franchise.
