Liverpool, who are one of the in-form teams of late in the English Premier League (EPL), continued their winning ways with another impressive performance as they defeated Swansea City, 1-0, at Anfield on Sunday. James Milner scored the crucial goal for Liverpool from the penalty spot.
Liverpool, who started the game brilliantly, should have scored more goals especially after their high-pressing game in the first 25 minutes where they were dominating Swansea City like no other. Jurgen Klopp's gegenpressing game was on full show, which must have pleased the German manager, but his smile could have been much wider had they scored a goal in that phase and put the game to bed in the first half itself.
Swansea gradually got back into game in the latter stages of the first half, though, their players did not get many chances to have a crack at Liverpool goal as the Reds were organised at the back as well.
Swansea fought well in the second half until they conceded a penalty in the 64th minute, which was converted by James Milner. Swansea did put huge pressure on Liverpool in the last 20 minutes of the game, but they could not find the elusive equaliser despite Liverpool defence looking a bit shaky.
The final whistle came as a huge sigh of relief for Liverpool fans, who were at the edge of their seats when Swansea players had the ball on their feet in the last few minutes of the game.
With this victory, Liverpool have climbed to fifth position (26 points) while Swansea lie on 15th position (14 points).
Liverpool fans will not only be happy with the result, but also with Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson, who have come back into the team after an injury. Sturridge and Henderson came in as second half substitutes.
The Reds, who have a spring in their step, will be geared up to face Southampton in their next League Cup quarter final match on Wednesday while they face Newcastle United in their next EPL fixture on Sunday.
