Liverpool have reportedly been handed a boost in their efforts to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi following speculations of the French giants looking to replace the Argentine with Benfica's Nicolas Gaitan.
The Merseyside club had been linked with a move for the 29-year-old forward in the past, before PSG beat them to his signature as Lavezzi completed a €26.5 million switch from Napoli in the summer of 2012.
However, according to the Daily Express, the Reds will finally be able to sign Lavezzi for as little as £8 million following reports of PSG wanting to sell the Argentine in the winter transfer window.
The French giants are reportedly looking to get into the good books of UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations by reducing their wage bill. And as Lavezzi currently earns a significant salary of £3.5 million per season, PSG are reportedly looking to cut him loose this month.
PSG have also not been very happy with the Argentine's conduct of late as the former Napoli forward along with Edinson Cavani were recently fined for returning late from their Christmas holidays.
Along with the fine, the duo have also been left out of the French side's last three fixtures against Montpellier, Bastita and AS Saint-Étienne, adding more doubt to their PSG futures.
Although Cavani's may still have a future at the Parc des Princes due to the club still having a place for him in the squad, Lavezzi's days at the French capital seems numbered, with their being reports of PSG already lining up a move for Gaitan as his replacement.
Meanwhile, Liverpool winger Oussama Assaidi has moved to Dubai based club Al Ahli for an undisclosed fee, bringing an end to his disappointing spell at Anfield
The 26-year-old Moroccan had failed to make an impact at Liverpool following his £2 million switch from Dutch side Heerenveen in 2012, and this had resulted in him being loaned out to Stoke City last season.
Although his loan spell at the Britannia stadium was further extended by the Reds this summer, they decided to terminate the deal so that they could permanently sell him to Al Ahli.
"Liverpool Football Club can confirm Oussama Assaidi has left on a permanent transfer to join Al Ahli Club," read a statement in the club's official website.
The 26-year-old has reportedly signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the UAE club.
