Latest buzz is that superstar Rajinikanth's eagerly-awaited film "Lingaa" will be releasing on 12 December, on his birthday. However, an official confirmation regarding the release date is yet to be made.
Earlier, it was speculated that the superstar will be locking horns with Ilayathalapathy Vijay during Diwali. If "Lingaa" hits theatres in December, then the film will be avoiding a clash with "Kaththi" which is slated to hit the screens during the festival period in October.
"Lingaa" was launched in May and the first part of the shooting of the film was completed in areas near Mysore. The second part began in Hyderabad's Ramoji Film City in the same month. The film's team took a brief break and they have resumed shooting of the big budget entertainer.
"Lingaa", directed by K.S. Ravikumar, has Rajinikanth appearing in dual roles. The film's other cast members include Sonakshi Sinha, Anushka Shetty, Santhanam and Jagapathi Babu among others. Sonakshi will play the love interest of the superstar appearing in a period character, while Anushka will be paired opposite the young Rajinikanth. The actress, currently busy with Ajith's "Thala 55", is yet to join the "Lingaa" team .
"Lingaa" music will be scored by Oscar winner AR Rahman, whereas Sabu Cyril and Rathnavelu are also part of the technical team.
There has been huge demand for the action drama film ever since it went on floors. Apparently, there is competition among the distributors to grab its theatrical and other rights in overseas markets.

There is also buzz that the demand for the Telugu dubbing rights for "Lingaa" is huge. Distributors are ready to offer as much as ₹30 crore to get the dubbing rights for the Andhra territory alone, reported Deccan Chronicle.
If the reports turn out to be true, then "Lingaa" might beat the dubbing rights of "Robo" ("Enthiran") , which apparently fetched ₹27 crore.
"Lingaa" will be the superstar's second release of the year after the 3D motion flick "Kochadaiiyaan." The epic drama, which hit the screens on 23 May, performed in an average manner in Tamil Nadu. The Telugu and the Hindi versions fared poorly at the box office. Despite the failure, the demand for Rajini's "Lingaa" is skyrocketing thanks to the superstar's star power.
