Rajinikanth's "Lingaa" has opened up to an overwhelming response at box offices worldwide. The Tamil movie has been welcomed by the audience not just in South India but in different parts of the world.
"Lingaa" was released in a few countries on Thursday evening (11 December) and it has seen the star light of the day in India on 12 December, which is also the superstar's birthday.
The movie has witnessed record-breaking response at key centres. In Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai, the film has got an amazing reception from Rajinikanth fans.
Early reports emerging from the US indicate that "Lingaa" has got never-before response for advance booking and the Tamil film is expected to come out with a stunning numbers at collection centres. Even in Singapore, the film has done well in 28 screens.
"Lingaa" has been released in 3000 screens worldwide. The film has been released in 600 screens in Tamil Nadu, 750+ in Andhra Pradesh, 215+ in Kerala, 375 in North India, 200 in Karnataka and 1000 overseas in multiple versions.
The interesting part of the story is that in Chennai and Bangalore, multiplexes have completely dedicated their screens to "Lingaa". The opening day shows in the two cities are expected to cross 400 and 350. Going by the advance booking response, "Lingaa" is most likely to surprise traders with record collections in the two regions.
In Chennai, many single screens started early morning shows to meet the demand for tickets. The house-full boards in front of theatres were a common scene for the morning and matinee shows.
However, "Lingaa" has got mixed reaction. While ardent Rajinikanth fans are impressed, others have not liked the content for taking too much liberty while projecting Rajini in a larger-than-life role. Especially, the climax portion has come for criticism. Nonetheless, many feel the film is fully entertaining if enjoyed beyond logic.
"Lingaa" has been directed by KS Ravikumar and bankrolled by Rockline Venkatesh. Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Shetty are playing the female lead roles in the film.
