The success rate of Kollywood has increased by five percent in the first half of 2015 as compared to its previous year. The Tamil film industry has produced over 100 films, of which at least 15 movies have earned good, decent or average profits.

Leading trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai in his half-yearly report has come up with some interesting stats. He begins on the note that small movies are performing well and cites examples of "Kaaka Muttai", "36 Vayadhinile" and "Demonte Colony", which have done incredible business considering the low investment.

Blockbusters
In the first half, Kollywood witnessed two blockbusters. Surprisingly, it is not Ajith's "Yennai Arindhaal", Vikram's "I", Kamal Haasan starrer "Uttama Villain" or Suriya's "Massu". "Kanchana 2" and "Kaaka Muttai" are the two ventures that have turned out to be successful. 

Hit Movies
Dhanush starrer "Anegan", Sivakarthikeyan's "Kaaki Sattai", Mani Ratnam directorial "Ok Kanmani", "Komban", "Darling", "36 Vayadhinile", "Demonte Colony" and "Romeo Juliet" have been declared hits.

Average Grossers
Ajith's "Yennai Arindhaal", "India Pakistan", "Vai Raja Vai" and "Tamizhukku Enn Ondrai Azhuthavum" are the average grossers of the first half.

Lifetime Business of Big Movies
1) Vikram starrer "I" opened to mixed reviews worldwide. The Tamil film made ₹190 crore (Nett) from three languages (Tamil, Telugu and Hindi).
2) Raghava Lawrence directorial and starrer "Kanchana 2" is made on a budget of ₹18 crore and ended earning ₹98 crore nett.
3) "Yennai Arindhaal", which was made on a budget of above ₹50 crore, earned ₹78 crore from Tamil and Telugu languages.
4) Suriya starrer "Massu" raked in ₹63 crore from Tamil and Telugu languages.
5) Dhanush "Anegan" collected ₹49 crore from Tamil and Telugu languages.
6) Sivakarthikeyan starrer "Kaaki Sattai" made ₹47 crore from Tamil language alone.
7) Kamal Hassan starrer "Uttama Villain" turned out to be a flop with the film managing to earn only ₹38 crore from Tamil and Telugu versions.
8) Mani Ratnam returned to form with "Ok Kanmani", which did ₹33 crore worldwide business from Tamil and Telugu versions.
9) Karthi starrer "Komban" made ₹31 crore.
10) Jayam Ravi and Hansika Motwani's "Romeo Juliet" raked in ₹22 crore.
