LG to Release New G Pad Series Tablet PCs this Week; Specifications Revealed

Consumer electronics giant, LG announced on Thursday that the company would roll out the new G Pad series tablet PCs this week.

Initially, small 7.0-inch G Pad variant will hit European stores by this weekend followed by 8.0-inch and 10.1-inch models in next few weeks. The prices of the devices is said to be revealed locally on the release day.

"LG understands that people have different needs and we wanted to provide consumers with a range of options in size, looks and attractive price points that included the best of LG's core technologies," said Dr Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

"With our latest tablets, LG is giving consumers options to find a device that best fits their lifestyle and needs." He added.

LG G Pad series tablets were originally unveiled on 12 May, but back then company had refrained from revealing key specifications, now the details has been officially disclosed just days ahead of the release date.

First up, 7.0-inch model flaunts a WXGA (1280 x 800p) HD IPS screen and ships with 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB inbuilt eMMC memory (expandable via microSD card) and houses 3.0-megapixel main camera, 1.3-megapixel snapper on the front and a 4,000 mAh battery.

On the other hand, bigger models 8.0-inch and 10.1-inch variants pack pretty much same specifications sans the battery. Both the devices sport a WXGA (1280x800p) HD screen, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1 GB RAM, 16GB eMMC expandable storage, 5.0-megapixel primary camera and a 1.3-megapixel secondary camera.

*OS - company has reframed from revealing the OS, but based on the recent launches, G Pad devices are expected to ship KitKat v4.4.2 out-of-the-box.
