LG launches new K8, K5 series mid-range smartphones

South Korean consumer electronics major LG launched two new K series smartphones in Seoul Tuesday (March 15).

"We are aware of the diverse needs and wants of our customers around the world and our goal is to deliver the best products to meet their expectations," Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications, said in a statement.

"The K8 and K5 will be fantastic choices for anyone who is seeking a smartphone with great looks, great looks, at a great price," Cho added.

Among the two, LG K8 is the top-end model. It features a 5.0-inch HD display, Android Marshmallow OS, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB/1GB RAM (depending on the region of sale), 8GB inbuilt storage, an 8MP primary camera, a 5MP front-snapper and a 2,125mAh battery.

On the other hand, LG K5 comes with the same 5.0-inch screen as K8, but its resolution is just 850x480p.

Under the hood, it houses 1.3GHz quad-core CPU, 1GB RAM and a 1,900mAh battery. It also features a 5MP camera on the back and a 2MP shooter on the front.

The company has confirmed that the K8 will first be made available in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, CIS and Latin America, whereas the K5 will be released in Europe, CIS and Latin America later this week. K5 will be sold as Q6 in Mexico, the company said.

With the launch of K8 and K5, LG now officially has four K series smartphones in its product portfolio. LG had unveiled K10 and K7 at Consumer Electronics Show 2016 in January.
