After launching the first commercial modular smartphone in February, LG finally brings the G5 smartphone to Indian shores. The modular flagship by LG is available for pre-booking exclusively on Flipkart for Rs. 52,990 and a limited period offer on the handset throws in a free Cam Plus for those who place the order before May 31.
The pricing of the LG G5 in India makes it a tough competitor to Apple iPhone 6s and Samsung Galaxy S7 series, which were priced similar at launch. Buyers can also pre-book the G5 smartphone retail outlets and LG branded stores too.
LG's Cam Plus, which comes free with the G5 for early adopters, is an add-on that attaches to the G5 for better grip and has physical buttons for the camera along with a built-in battery to extend the battery life. LG also has other modular accessories, including LG 360 Cam, LG 360 VR and LG Charging Cradle, but the pricing and availability details in India are still unknown.
As for the handset itself, LG has really upped the ante on its G5 flagship. Besides its modular nature, the handset comes with an impressive spec-sheet that justifies the price tag. It features a 5.3-inch Quad HD display with Always On glance feature and a dual-camera setup. The rear-facing camera is equipped with a 16MP 78-degree lens and a 135-degree wide-angle lens with 8MP sensor, which can capture more landscape with ease. On the front side, there is an 8MP snapper for selfies.
LG G5 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage. It has a 2,800mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 and Low Power Location Estimation (LPLE) Technology to improve battery efficiency. The device is sealed with an all-metal uni-body design with 3D arc design on the top and a fingerprint scanner at the back. The handset also features a USB Type-C connector and supports 4G LTE, USB 3.0 and NFC. LG G5 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.
LG G5 comes in three colours, gold, silver and titan grey. All models are available for pre-order online. The product shipping is expected to begin June 1 and pre-orders may get delivered by June 4, according to the Flipkart listing.
