South Korean consumer electronics giant, LG on 17 July officially unveiled the compact version of the flagship smartphone dubbed as G3 Beat in Seoul.
"Smartphone manufacturers cannot ignore this growing segment of consumers who want the best balance of looks, features, performance and, of course, price," said Dr Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.
"The LG G3 Beat represents our commitment to the mid-tier smartphone market that demands mature technology, proven branding, great innovation and attractive price, all in a single device," he added.
The new LG G3 Beat design language is expectedly influenced from its bigger sibling G3 sans the size. It flaunts the ergonomically placed power and volume button combo on the rear-side, just below the camera module. It sports a 5.0-inch HD (1280x720p) IPS display with the pixel density of 294 ppi (pixels per inch).
Under the hood, it houses 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 series quad-core processor run by Android v4.4.2 KitKat OS, 1GB RAM, 8GB inbuilt memory (expandable) and a 2,540 mAh battery.
Like LG G3, the smaller variant too comes loaded with a laser auto-focus based main camera (8.0-megapixel). For the uninitiated, this feature measures the distance between the subject and the camera using a laser beam enabling quick capture of good quality photos even under low-light conditions. No other smartphone in the market boasts this kind of camera technology.
The company has comfirmed that the new LG G3 Beat will hit stores in the home market, South Korea on 18 July and in the coming weeks, it is said to retail in CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) and Europe with a moniker 'LG G3 s'. However, the details regarding its price and availability in other regions are still under wraps.
