South Korean consumer electronics giant LG has unveiled the new generation portable printer Pocket Photo 2.0.
The new LG photo printer (PD239) is slimmer than its predecessor PD233 and can churn out more number of prints (30, to be precise) in a single charge. The Pocket Photo 2.0 employs the same paper ZINK (Zero INK) technology, wherein the photo sheets come with pre-included ink on it.
The ZINK photo sheets attain colours through heating process inside the LG printer. (Different colours on the photo will be achieved by varying temperature and heating rates inside the printer).
The portable LG device is compatible with Apple devices (with iOS v5.1 and above) and Android-powered gadgets (v2.2 Froyo and above). Users just need to download the LG Pocket Photo app at respective online stores. Once installed, people can transfer pictures wirelessly to the printer via Bluetooth or NFC mode.
As of now, the LG Pocket Photo 2.0 has been made available only in China but it is expected to land in other global markets next year. LG will showcase this new gadget to the media at the upcoming international electronics trade fair CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2014 at Las Vegas (7-10 January).
Besides unveiling the new device, LG also announced the company would release a software update with 'Knock (previously known as KnockOn) gesture feature' to the popular mid-range L-II smartphone series.
Once upgraded, users can just tap on the smartphone display to unlock the lock screen, eliminating the need to press the power button to activate the screen.
"Knock is distinctively an LG UX and a great example of what happens when you marry the latest in mobile technology with consumer-centric insights," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics' Mobile Communications Company
