ZUK Z2 Pro will make an impact in the premium budget market, where brands like Xiaomi, LeEco and Huawei, among others, have strong foothold.
Lenovo-backed ZUK is all geared up to launch its second handset this month. Dubbed as ZUK Z2 Pro, the new handset would succeed the ZUK Z1, which was launched last year. ZUK CEO Chang Cheng revealed on Weibo that the second flagship would launch April 21, but details of the handset have already been doing the rounds on internet.
ZUK Z2 Pro was listed on AnTuTu benchmarking site, revealing key details of the upcoming premium handset. As per the listing, the handset, which is codenamed ZUK Z2121, would feature a Full HD display with 1920x1080 pixels resolution and Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow-based ZUI out-of-the-box, Phone Radar reported.
If the ZUK Z1 was any indication, the listed model could be the Chinese variant and an international variant could run Cyanogen OS. According to the report, the ZUK Z2 Pro will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset, Adreno 530 GPU and 3GB/4GB RAM. Both the variants of the device will get 32GB onboard storage.
Android Headlines says the ZUK Z2 Pro will have a 13-megapixel primary camera and an 8MP front snapper, as per the AnTuTu listing. But Phone Radar speculates a rotating camera and a full metal body to embrace the Z2 Pro.
The handset's display size was not mentioned in the AnTuTu listing, but the Z2 Pro is expected to borrow the screen panel from its predecessor ZUK Z1 and feature a 5.5-inch display. Other details such as the battery and price of the ZUK Z2 Pro still remain a mystery.
Considering the ZUK Z1 had a 4100mAh battery, we are guessing the Z2 Pro to have the same battery capacity with enhanced power saving mode or a bigger unit. Fingerprint scanner, dual SIM card slots, and a USB Type-C port were key highlights of the ZUK Z1, and it is only fitting to see the same features in its successor. Nothing is confirmed by the company on the specs front.
As for the pricing, Android Headlines says it expects the standard model to be priced around ¥1,800 (around Rs. 18,500 or $278) in China. This would make ZUK Z2 Pro a strong contender in the budget premium smartphone market, where handsets like LeEco Le 2 Pro, Le Max 2 and OnePlus 3 are expected to make their entry this year.
