Lenovo updated its long overdue ultra-affordable smartphone category with the launch of its Vibe K5 smartphone, which succeeds the popular and bestselling A6000. The new smartphone comes with significant upgrades over its predecessor, but manages to keep the cost of the device same. Lenovo Vibe K5 is priced at Rs. 6,999 and it will be available on Amazon India starting June 22.
If you are unaware, Lenovo A6000 offered great specs for Rs. 6,999 at the time of its launch, but the intense competition in the market demands more. Lenovo responded with its Vibe K5, which now competes against handsets like Swipe Elite Plus, Meizu m2, Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime and Coolpad Note 3 Lite.
Lenovo Vibe K5 is a massive upgrade over A6000 and here are all the changes in the new handset compared to the old one.
Design
Lenovo Vibe K5 sports lightweight metal body, which is a major development compared to A6000's polycarbonate one. The Vibe K5 also has dual speakers placed at the back with Dolby Atmos for a better audio experience. If you are looking to upgrade your A6000 as the design feels a bit outdated, the Vibe K5 is a worthy investment.
Camera
Lenovo Vibe K5 sports a 13-megapixel sensor with LED flash and autofocus and a 5MP front snapper, which is also a major upgrade over A6000. Lenovo A6000 had an 8MP rear camera with flash and a 2MP front snapper.
Processor, RAM and storage
Lenovo Vibe K5 users can expect a significant boost in performance of the device as well. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 415 chipset and 2GB RAM. The A6000 had a quad-core Snapdragon 410 chipset with 1GB RAM. The storage in the Vibe K5 is not increased as it remains at 16GB with microSD card expansion.
Battery
Lenovo boasts that its Vibe K5 battery is bigger than the A6000 but in a sleeker body. The Vibe K5 is powered by a 2,750mAh battery as compared to A6000's 2,300mAh unit.
Conclusion
If you are an A6000 user and planning to upgrade to a new handset for a while now, Lenovo Vibe K5 presents itself with a striking opportunity. With the new handset, users get better design, improved camera and performance, and a bigger battery, all of which at the same cost as the A6000. But the Vibe K5 isn't the only handset offering great value for money. Handsets like Coolpad Note 3 Lite, Swipe Elite Plus and Meizu m2 are a few handsets that strongly challenge the Vibe K5.
