After the success of Lenovo K4 Note and the Vibe K5 Plus in India, the Chinese electronics giant is all set to launch a new budget smartphone, Vibe K5, as early as next week. Lenovo confirmed the launch date of the Vibe K5 on Twitter on Friday, showing the handset in gold, dark grey and silver colours. The company said the A6000 successor will be launched in India on June 13, 2016.
With the launch of the Vibe K5, the competition in the ultra-affordable smartphone segment will get fierce. The sub-Rs. 10,000 price category for smartphones is extremely popular in India as OEMs are offering premium specifications for a worthy buck. The legacy of Lenovo A6000, which ruled the budget smartphone segment during its launch, is likely to continue with the Vibe K5.
Lenovo did not reveal the price of the Vibe K5, but the recently-launched Vibe K5 Plus is priced at Rs. 8,499, which means the upcoming smartphone is most likely to cost less than Rs. 8,000. The Vibe K5's predecessor, A6000, was launched at Rs. 6,499, but we are expecting a slight hike considering the bump in the specifications of the Vibe K5.
Lenovo Vibe K5 was originally unveiled alongside the Vibe K5 Plus at the MWC 2016 conference earlier this year. The handset sports an aluminium body, dual speakers with Dolby Atmos audio at the back and a 5-inch HD display. The Vibe K5 is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 415 octa-core chipset, 2GB RAM and 16GB expandable storage.
The Vibe K5 features a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and a 5MP front snapper. It packs a 2,750mAh battery and supports dual SIM and 4G LTE connectivity. The handset runs Android 5.1 Lollipop based Vibe UI out-of-the-box.
On the sidelines, Lenovo unveiled three new devices, the Phab2, Phab2 Plus and Phab2 Pro at the Lenovo Tech World 2016 conference in San Francisco on Thursday. The company also showed off its flexible devices, the C Plus smartphone and the Folio tablet, and unveiled the all-new Moto Z and Z Force smartphones with modular accessories.
